Artist's Comments

This is the evil twin to Enliven (or visa versa, I don't know). I did this from a color photograph and had to paint it black and white. This was even harder than the last because it really stretched me to discover the exact tones of many colors instead of just imagining the colors I want to use and then matching the tone. Also, I do not paint with black, so that made this perticular project more interesting. While I am used to painting color grays and color blacks in my normal paintings, in this one, I had to make sure that my grays were really gray, and also very consistant throughout. It is done in acrylic on illustration board and is about 12" by 9" and I finished it in about 1 & 1/2 weeks to 2 weeks. I hope you all enjoy him. I know I do. Oh and yes, this is Bob for those who were wondering. (I know you were)

Wonderful job. You have a great understanding of the human face and I hope to see more works from you.

I recognized Bob the gardener! This one is definitely more dramatic than the first Bob portrait, likely because of the black/gray and the dark shadow on his face, maybe his expression too. Amazing detail as usual, and in my opinion his left eye makes the whole thing come alive.

Said it before and I'll say it again - you're one talented puppy! His eyes express both the sterness of experience and the vulnerability of old age. Bravo.

Bobtheraccoon, you're the portrait master:worship:For tonality, do you use anything except black and white:?

Well, I'd say you did a pretty good job. All the tones came out really well. I've had experience drawing black and white from color photographs, and it takes a bit of time to get the values right.
